Sharing Stories and Changing Lives
It has been an absolute joy hearing all the wonderful testimonies from parents about how their children are overcoming fears and being BOLD, STRONG, and FEARLESS!
I've received emails, messages, and reviews stating that children are wanting to enroll in swim lessons, learn to ride their bikes, sleep alone in their room and more. Lives are being changed and that makes writing and sharing my stories ALL WORTH IT!
DO YOU STRUGGLE TO GET YOUR CHILD EXCITED ABOUT READING
Reading is boring...
Does This Sound Like Your Child?
I've read and talked to hundreds of children and when I ask them "how many of you like to read?" the number of hands that go up is surprising. Sometimes the hands fly up but most of the times I hear outbursts of "I don't like to read", "I need help reading", and most of all "reading is boring!" I believe that there is a book(s) out there for everyone, the reader just has to find the right book. Once a child finds the right book for them, then their views on reading changes.
Tips to finding the right book for your child:
-
What gets your child excited? Is it sports, music (A-Tal raps), legos, video games, princesses (The Fearless Princess), science, etc.? Choose books that align with your child interests. (for example, if your child enjoys sports, choose a sports related book like What A-Tal Play Today?)
-
Have your child read books that are on his/her reading level. Choosing a book that's above their reading level, may challenge them too much. When a child struggles to read, it can become discouraging.
-
Be open to various book options. For example, if your child wants to start out reading comics, age appropriate magazines, or even picture books, then let them start there. If they are reading, then that's a step in the right direction.
-
Have FUN! Read with your child. My daughter likes for me to read with her. She reads a page, then I read a page. I get into character, change my voice, and act like I think the character acts in the book. We laugh and have fun reading.
